Marawi, 385 miles south of Capital Manila of Philippines, with 160.000 population is majority muslim city in majority catholic country. It is spiritual center of Mindanao, rich-mineral area with majority muslim inhabitans in Philippines.
Islam lives in the city as Muslims code in day-to-day practices as reflected in elegant mosque, practicing of Islam's pilars from shalat (praying) to hajj (pilgrimage), shariah banking, wearing hijab of women, high tolerance with catholic minority that figure 1 % of the city citizens.
"'To avoid arguments and to avoid further misunderstandings we just plant the cross deep in our hearts,' says Father Teresito Soganub, the city's priest. He added that local Muslim leaders always include him in community discussions to represent Catholics...'", quoted IslamOnline.
